
Thomas Wesley Douglas
Thomas has done more than 150 musical theatre, opera and oratorio
productions. One highlight of his work in theater was Sir Andrew
Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera in Switzerland with the
Really Useful Company, preparing and conducting the first Swiss
production of this record breaking musical performed both in German
and English.
His career has included Musical Director for the Music Theater
of Wichita, E. Carolina Summer Theater and the West Virginia Public
Theater having done productions of The King and I, Sugar Babies,
Annie Get Your Gun, Beehive, Bye Bye Birdie, Cinderella, Shenandoah,
42nd Street, Singing in the Rain, Always Patsy Cline, Showboat,
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Seven Brides for
Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Honky Tonk Angels, Gypsy, and Phantom.
Thomas has also created the onstage role of Fats Waller in productions
of Ain't Misbehavin'. He has also enjoyed being the Musical
Director for productions of Closer than Ever, Baby, Carousel,
The Sound of Music, Jesus Christ Superstar, Charlie and Algernon,
Hair, Kiss Me Kate, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, A Little Night Music
and The Baker's Wife. Thomas was given the distinction of Best
Musical Direction in 1996 for the do-wop musical Avenue X at the City Theater. At the City Theater he as also done Valley
Song and the onstage role of Manny in Master Class.
He has been the Choral Director for the Canton Symphony and the
Assistant Conductor of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh having
conducted numerous works from the standard choral/orchestral repertoire.
He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Pittsburgh Chorale-East,
the Neighborhood Opera Company, a new African American Opera Company
and the Pinnacle Players, a musical theater company for performers
over age thirty. Mr. Douglas is on the Drama and Music school faculty
of Carnegie Mellon University and has served on the Choral/Opera
Panel of the State Council on the Arts. In addition to many other
guest conducting appearances including the Dallas Symphony, he has
enjoyed singing with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Canton Symphony,
the Westmoreland Symphony and the River City Brass Band. He is the
proud dad to Justin and Courtney. |
